<p>With Boerderleren, kids are welcomed into a 3D map full of different farms. They can unlock them one by one, fulfill missions and become agricultural know-it-alls.</p><p>To give every kid the same experience and ease of use, we had to make sure the application was free of any hurdles. We focused immensely on accessibility, by creating concepts without any complexity.</p>

<h3>Two-sided challenge</h3><p>The app had to give city kids a window into a world they aren’t familiar with and push them to explore it. But to do that, we had to really step into their minds and create something that would spark their interest.&nbsp;</p><p>Meanwhile, teachers needed a modular application. Something that they could mold to the specific needs of their pupils, and their unique approach to teaching.&nbsp;</p><p>For this, the app needed to be as accessible as possible. Because with big classrooms full of easily distracted kids, teachers can't afford to lose time.</p>

Two-sided challenge

<h3>Effortlessly manageable</h3><p>Teachers have to be able to switch gears instantly and easily. So we made the application truly as flexible as possible, cutting out all complexities of entering codes, invitations, or setting up configurations.&nbsp;</p><p>Secondly, we set up the game loop to be very simple and transparent. Creating a truly unique interactive experience, which tickles kids' curiosity and makes them want to continue to explore the application.</p>

<p>For the visual style, we landed on a charming and colorful design. Its minimalist approach makes it easy to understand for every child, yet allows us to create a unique, and recognizable personality for Boerderleren</p><p>Finally, the isometric perspective allows us to switch between 2D and 3D, while keeping the same design feel. 'Boerderleren' is an entertaining and educational desktop app for schools, where teachers can take their pupils on a digital journey to the countryside. A fun twist on teaching, created by Studio Hyperdrive for Streekvereniging Zuidrand.

<h3>The challenge</h3><p>Uitsprekend started as a one-stop solution for non-native speakers, who were looking to improve their pronunciation. But as time went on, the platform lacked adequate challenge, as people weren't encouraged by the current design.&nbsp;</p><p>Following this, things like a boring layout and having no illustrations formed some of the main pain points that the platform faced. As a result, another problem was ever-increasing the low level of engagement.</p>

The challenge

<p>After finishing an exercise series, people generally had no further reason to visit the platform, and no real stimulus to enroll in a new exercise series.&nbsp;</p><p>Making Studio Hyperdrive’s main objectives to make the platform more user-friendly, more attractive, and finally more fitting to VDAB’s corporate identity.</p>

<h3>User-friendly</h3><p>With those things in mind, we focused on making the redesign of the platform more intuitive, playfully memorable, and easy to use.</p><p>To make this a reality, we needed to introduce several changes and essentially change the whole user interaction process.</p>

<h3>Easily accessible</h3><p>VDAB aimed at making the updated platform more accessible for everyone. That’s why for the redesign, we developed the platform to not only be accessible on the web but also through an application that can be downloaded through the app store.&nbsp;</p><p>This allows users to download their favorite exercises, so they can even access them offline when there is no data connection available. Finally, by developing the updated platform, we were also able to address the issue of scalability, speed up the platform, improve security, and fulfill other possible needs.</p>

<h3>Playfully memorable</h3><p>After we developed the new platform to be more user-friendly, we went ahead with updating the design. As one of the main pain points was the inconsistency between ‘Uitsprekend’ and other resources, we ensured that the new design was more in line with their corporate identity, and resonated with their audience.</p><p>Knowing the core audience of Uitsprekend being non-native speakers, we wanted to make the design of the platform more playful, while accessible to everyone that chooses to interact with the platform.</p>

<p>We’ve been happy to apply our skills and expertise to help VDAB reach their goals with Uitsprekend 2.0. Since its release in December 2022, it’s been a full-fledged busy online learning platform, offering foreign-language citizens the opportunity to work on their voice and speech formation via a qualitative tool.&nbsp;</p><p>By doing so, we contributed to an increased chance of employment, whilst making several professions more accessible for the non-native target audience. As for certain professions such as nursing, teaching, etc., the correct pronunciation is often a requirement.</p>

VDAB's ‘Uitsprekend’ e-learning platform helps non-native speakers, to practice their pronunciation in Dutch. So, as VDAB envisioned a complete update and redesign, their team came to us.

<h3>Smart charging</h3><p>The rising popularity of electric vehicles makes that each day, way more businesses are considering them for their fleet. So how do these businesses learn to cope with a rapidly changing energy landscape?</p><p>Phoenix Contact developed ‘MINT’ to help businesses optimize the interaction between their power grid and electric fleet. By doing so, MINT ensures that energy assets are used to their maximum capabilities.</p>

<h3>Energy flows</h3><p>Studio Hyperdrive was invited to develop a 3D touch table application and accompanying dashboard, to help express MINT's unique technologies.</p><p>Extensive workshops with Phoenix Contact first helped us gain greater insight into how we could visualize the impact of electric cars on the charging infrastructure of business parks.&nbsp;</p><p>Leading us to develop an interactive data stream, which allowed all elements of MINT to be monitored.</p>

<h3>Bringing power to life</h3><p>We started developing the front end of the interactive touch table, allowing users to simulate consumption data of business parks and their electric fleets, by placing miniature-sized cars on the touch table.&nbsp;</p><p>By doing so, users can combine things like weather forecasts, as well as the desired departure time and the number of kWh the EV driver wishes to charge.&nbsp;</p><p>The accompanying dashboard then shows the ideal charging curve of all the vehicles that are charging, taking into the available power, and energy costs.</p>

<h3>Intelligent design</h3><p>It was important to display all elements and parameters of the MINT Energy Management System clearly and attractively. Leading us to the 3D visual style.</p><p>Next to the touch table, the accompanying dashboard integrates the same visual style and elements. Here though, the charging curves become a way of interacting with the system.</p>

<h3>Hardware &amp; software</h3><p>While we not only developed all the dashboard’s software in-house, we also took care of the hardware implementation of the touch table, and test our code.</p><p>This allowed us to test out all needed scenarios locally and debug whenever needed. After development, our partner ‘Bossuyt Shop Interiors’ created the physical showcase for the touch table, to present the solution.</p>

With the move to more safe, sustainable, and affordable energy systems on the horizon for many businesses in Belgium, Phoenix Contact struck gold in visualizing the unique technology and benefits of their future-proofed solution, called ‘MINT’.

<h3>Exploring Bruges</h3><p>Building on the strategy of making a digital sequel for the self-guided ‘Oooh!’ walking tours, Visit Bruges aimed at solving several key challenges for the city.&nbsp;</p><p>Looking for the necessary resources, they found the ideal partnership through the facilitators at ‘Cronos Public Services’. Partnering with Studio Hyperdrive, they decided to develop a brand-new mobile route application, serving new inspiration and information.</p><p>Further on, we gained additional insights into how we could increase the experiential value of visiting Bruges, while offering the opportunity to prepare trips. All so that longer stays could be encouraged for tourists.</p>

Exploring Bruges, the World Heritage City

<p>In an effort to add new layers to the route app, we started with integrating the existing walks from Bruges’ ‘Oooh!’ self-guided walking tours, and complemented them with new content.&nbsp;</p><p>Through content types such as; photos, videos, 360°-degree images, and even augmented reality, we’re hereby encouraging users to visit 73 points of interest that are listed on the interactive map of the app. Enabling Visit Bruges to grant users a behind-the-scenes look, at places where access is not granted.</p>

Your guide, full of surprising content

<h3>Easily accessible</h3><p>We tested multiple user stories and scenarios, making the application intuitive, memorable, and easy to use. Thus increasing user-friendliness, and tackling the main weak spots of the application.</p><p>Knowing that the core audience of the application would primarily consist of tourists, Visit Bruges decided to offer the app in six languages, to be able to communicate in the language of their target audience.</p>

<h3>Online and offline</h3><p>As was mentioned earlier, Visit Bruges aimed at making the route app more accessible for everyone. That’s why we developed the platform to be available through an application that is either downloadable through the Apple App Store or Google Play Store, for mobile phones and tablets.</p><p>Allowing users to access the application’s interactive map and routes at any time, even when there is no data connection available. Finally, we were also able to speed up the platform, improve its security, …</p>

Always free, online and offline

<h3>Ever-evolving</h3><p>To keep optimizing the app’s offering, active users of the application can provide feedback through a custom-made satisfaction tool. By receiving valuable feedback, Visit Bruges intends to keep filling the application with new and inspiring content.&nbsp;</p><p>For example, just recently an exciting addition will follow as part of VRT’s 'Story of Flanders', in which they will bring the 'Story of Bruges' to life within the app.</p>

Ever-evolving

<p>Unesco World Heritage… Retaining the mysteries of the Middle Ages… and unashamedly inspirational. We’ve been happy to apply our skills and expertise to help Visit Bruges reach its goals with its new route app.&nbsp;</p><p>Since its release in January 2023, the platform has reached more than 7000 active users. Finally, this project could not get realized without the overall coordination from Cronos Public Services NV, and the support from Bruges’ city marketing.</p>

Together with the team at ‘Visit Bruges’, we developed a brand-new route app, creating a boundless online experience for the city. The app fully responds to international tourists in 2023, who increasingly use digital tools during their holidays.

<h3>The general concept</h3><p>Raf Simons' new website needed to be more dynamic in terms of content, reduce excessive noise concerning the brand, provide more recurrent visitors, and invigorate unique content.</p><p>Together with our colleagues at design agency ‘Mirror Mirror’, we subsequently prepared three pillars, which allowed us to approach the project, from the initial sketch to the finished project.</p>

The general concept

<p>To give Raf Simons as much control as possible over the redesigned website, we helped Mirror Mirror in developing and deploying a user-friendly CMS.</p><p>Combining that with best-in-class hosting, we're allowing users to navigate the site quickly and intuitively worldwide, all without worrying about technical issues such as latency or server load.&nbsp;</p><p>This way the website remains fast and responsive, even in an environment with very high traffic volumes.</p>

Putting the brand in the driver's seat

<h3>Putting the brand first</h3><p>To make sure that the new site could respond to the different needs and expectations of its visitors, the redesign was split into two different elements; an informative element and an inspiring element.</p><p>For the informative element, a variety of elegant pages were provided that all give a comprehensive look at practical information.&nbsp;</p><p>Furthermore, the inspiring element of the website was created by a minimalist layout, striking visuals, a light and dark background, and negative space.</p>

<h3>Ultimate dynamism in design</h3><p>The UI is additionally joined by smooth animations, engaging scroll, video integration, and other design solutions to present the expansive content collection of the Raf Simons brand. The landing page then shows an infinite grid based on pictures, videos, and audio fragments, which provides the ultimate way of showcasing the ‘World of Raf Simons’.&nbsp;</p><p>To make the redesign appear beautiful and consistent regardless of the device or location it is visited from, we thoughtfully adapted the UI to the tablet and mobile versions and made sure no compromises were made during the development and deployment.</p>

<h3>Optimal content management</h3><p>To make sure that certain resources are used optimally and efficiently, a system was built that is completely tailored to existing and new content sources. The images that are for example displayed on the landing page, are randomly generated for each visit.&nbsp;</p><p>This allows the visitor to see new highlighted content whenever one chooses to visit the site, providing an extra dynamic element to the website.</p>

<h3>Forward, always.</h3><p>Even though Raf Simons has announced that he would be shuttering his eponymous clothing brand, we are sure that his legacy will inspire many more generations to come. <h3>Nike going digital</h3><p>Nike’s continuous pursuit of innovation and its hunger to be connected to its customers have always led the company to always stay ahead of the curve in marketing and communication trends.</p><p>To invigorate this digital strategy, they didn’t underestimate the importance of brick-and-mortar shops though, as they innovated their physical stores and integrated them with their digital counterparts.</p>

<p>For its latest venture, Nike has combined all of its latest innovations under the roof of a three-story flagship store in the center of Seoul, South Korea.</p><p>Here, phygital experiences are created by an RFID-enabled footwear comparison table, the ‘Inside Track’, which recognizes the shoes consumers place on them.</p>

<h3>Embracing new technologies</h3><p>While jogging or other sports are easy to understand, many products or causes are not. That’s why Studio Hyperdrive assisted Nike’s customers in becoming better at what they’re doing.</p><p>In cooperation with ‘Enjoy The Weather’ and ‘nocomputer’, we developed the front-end of an interactive shoe comparison experience, which gives customers the desired information about a Nike shoe, by placing the particular shoe straight onto the screen.</p>

<h3>Customer interests first</h3><p>By using the ‘Inside Track’, store shoppers can hereby compare details such as product benefits, footwear technologies, and online reviews for any shoe.&nbsp;</p><p>By these means, the footwear comparison table provides an interactive experience that is not just about the shoes, but about keeping Nike's customers engaged and tapping into knowing what they all want.</p>

<h3>Adapting to challenges</h3><p>Of course, every real project has challenges to face, so for us at Studio Hyperdrive this was no different. As the world went through a global pandemic, testing code became quite difficult for our developers.&nbsp;</p><p>Although we could test out our code using a touch table simulator on local machines, we couldn’t quite test out all scenarios. This of course led to some late-night debug sessions with the USA team who did have a duplicate of the touch table that would be used.</p>

Adapting to challenges

<p>For a few years already, Nike has been trying to perfect its own formula for creating the ultimate shopping experience, designed to bridge the gap between digital and physical shopping experiences. All in an age that is heavily dominated by apps.&nbsp;</p><p>Nike’s flagship store in Seoul is an excellent effort in trying to do just that, and we’re proud that Studio Hyperdrive had the chance of being a part of this.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

<h3>A story of collaboration</h3><p>To reach carbon neutrality by the year 2050, the city of Antwerp is bundling all of its strengths together. Collaborating with all districts, Woonhaven, AG VESPA, AG Stedelijk Onderwijs, Zorgbedrijf, Brandweer Zone Antwerpen, and Politie Zone Antwerpen.<br><br>Of course, we at Studio Hyperdrive were eager to be a part of this story. Helping the collaboration between the companies, organizations, entrepreneurs, and citizens of Antwerp, who are enabling amazing initiatives to achieve the set climate goals.</p>

<p>The concept of ‘Antwerp for Climate’ finds its origins in the intention to build a unique platform for Antwerp's entrepreneurs, organizations, and citizens, … to inform themselves and participate in taking action on the climate ambitions of the City of Antwerp.</p><p>So with a little help from our colleagues at ‘Little Miss Robot’, we first did a short kick-off workshop to figure out the intention and goal of the platform. Who did we want to reach and how would we want to achieve that?</p><p>These conclusions were then turned into schematics and designs, so we could start with the development.</p>

<p>With Antwerp's other platforms in mind, we decided to go for Angular Universal during the development. Letting us build versatile applications.</p><p>The backbone of the platform was a custom CMS that was previously used by Antwerp, which fitted perfectly with our Angular setup and gave us a lot of freedom to build a flexible platform that would still be accessible.</p><p>The result is a performant, informative platform that enables the City of Antwerp to reach and inform its entrepreneurs, organizations, and citizens. Providing the ability to let them engage and participate in reaching carbon neutrality by 2050, together.</p>

The City of Antwerp has committed itself to achieving carbon neutrality and has a robust approach concerning the climate by the year 2050. Antwerp for Climate isn't just a story about the city. It's an online platform for the people and their communities.

<h3>Product goal &amp; vision</h3><p>Our vision was to develop a cutting-edge, robust, and scalable solution that not only meets the current needs of The EBMT but is also adaptable for future enhancements. This approach guarantees that data capture, management, and analysis are performed seamlessly and effectively. The solution needed to be highly configurable, offering flexibility and interoperability while enabling seamless integration of components.</p><p>Central to our product goal was the creation of a modular platform comprising industry-standard components alongside our proprietary building blocks. This provides a comprehensive, end-to-end data solution that spans from data entry to advanced analytics. By embracing open standards and tools, we aimed to provide The EBMT with an optimal balance between customization and off-the-shelf solutions. This allows for features that are fully tailored to the client’s needs while leveraging existing library components whenever possible. As a result, the most suitable tool is applied to each task.</p>

<p>Our journey began with a thorough analysis of workflows and roles to identify inefficiencies and resolve challenges in the legacy system, such as redundant data entry, inadequate access controls, and difficulties managing large data volumes. Through collaborative workshops and interviews with key EBMT stakeholders, we gathered insights into daily processes and pain points.</p><p>These findings formed the foundation for a streamlined data entry platform that caters to the diverse needs of data managers, researchers, and administrators. Additionally, roles and permissions were redesigned to establish fine-grained access controls, addressing security concerns while facilitating smoother operations. The resulting platform offers tailored interfaces for each user role, reducing complexity, boosting productivity, and maintaining strict data privacy standards. This foundational work laid the groundwork for a secure and adaptable registry that supports current workflows while anticipating future needs.</p>

<h3>Simplicity and accessibility</h3><p>The platform features intuitive navigation, clean layouts, and an organized hierarchy that highlights frequently used features while logically grouping secondary functions. Accessibility was prioritized with design elements such as balanced color schemes, clear typography, and adequate spacing to support usability for individuals with diverse abilities.</p><p>The addition of real-time validation, auto-completion, and error highlighting streamlined data entry, reducing errors and improving data quality. This combination of simplicity and accessibility resulted in a platform that is both powerful and easy to use, allowing professionals to focus on their work efficiently.</p>

<h3>Streamlined data entry</h3><p>The Registry Application serves as the foundation of the new EBMT platform, designed to facilitate seamless and effective data collection for HCT professionals. With smart forms featuring real-time validation and auto-completion, the platform minimizes user burden and enhances accuracy during data entry. A modular design allows users to customize forms to fit specific research needs, whether capturing routine patient data or managing datasets for advanced studies.</p><p>Enhanced quality control features, such as automated validation and Source Data Verification (SDV), maintain data integrity from entry to analysis. The platform also integrates smoothly with existing systems, enabling the seamless import and harmonization of legacy data. Its adaptability and user-friendly design empower users to efficiently manage their workflows, ensuring that both current requirements and future advancements in research are supported.</p>

<h3>Advanced form configuration</h3><p>The Form Configurator is a flexible and intuitive tool that allows users to create bespoke data collection forms tailored to research and clinical workflows. Its drag-and-drop interface enables effortless form design, field addition, and configuration adjustments without requiring technical expertise. Advanced features like conditional logic and real-time validation further enhance data accuracy and minimize errors.</p><p>The configurator replaced manual API configurations, making the process more accessible to a broader range of users. It also supports form previews before publication, reducing errors and ensuring compliance with study requirements. As an independent application integrated into the registry, the Form Configurator accommodates additional layers of complexity, such as tooltips and workflows, allowing it to evolve alongside the platform to meet future needs.</p>

<h3>The result</h3><p>Through a collaborative effort, the EBMT Registry was transformed into a scalable, user-friendly platform that redefines HCT data management and research. With features like a robust data entry system, customizable form builder, and advanced data integration pipelines, the registry now serves as a cornerstone for research in hematological care.</p><p>&nbsp;</p>

In collaboration with the European Society for Blood and Marrow Transplantation (EBMT), we worked towards a complete rebuild of their Registry. A platform serving as the backbone for the research and educational activities for hematopoietic cell transplantation (HCT) healthcare professionals.
